Objectives:
This Accelerator will prototype, test and validate an accessible, decision-ready digital twin workflow for broadcast and virtual production studios.
It will help broadcasters, studio owners and creative teams assess studio capability, technical feasibility, delivery risk and sustainability impact earlier—at commissioning and pre-production stage—before budgets and schedules are locked. Designed for remote and distributed collaboration, the workflow will reduce reliance on physical recces, improve confidence in greenlight decisions, and embed sustainability intelligence from the start.
The project will culminate in a live interactive 'dashboard' demonstrator, at IBC2026 and produce a repeatable blueprint for wider industry adoption.
Innovation:
The innovation lies in using production-accurate digital twins as a shared decision-making layer for commissioning—combining photogrammetry, LiDAR, Gaussian Splatting, real-time simulation, IoT and optional VR access in ways not currently used this early in production. The project will integrate creative, technical, operational and sustainability insight into one workflow.
Collaboration:
Collaboration is central: Digital Catapult will work with key UK Broadcasters,Virtual Production studio owners and key technology partners to test globally relevant use cases. Together, the consortium will rapidly prototype and showcase a practical, internationally scalable workflow for more confident, sustainable VP adoption.
