Both papers in this session investigate challenging wireless applications.

Our first paper focuses on wireless PMSE (Programme Making and Special Events) - examining the changing regulatory framework and the complex technical choices now available. The performance of Split 7-2 O-RAN and Wi-Fi 6E is compared against traditional Split 8 and Wi-Fi 5 implementations to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of these emerging technologies.

Our second paper presents a collective vision from leading companies on the evolution of media services in the 6G era. Unlike 5G, which focused on speed and latency improvements, 6G aims to redefine connectivity by integrating AI, sensing, and ubiquitous intelligence into the network fabric. This fascinating presentation shares lessons learnt from 5G, examples of new media capabilities and the underlying philosophy driving the innovation.

Two supporting papers on 5G are also available – covering trials and examples of allowing client-side access to network APIs, alongside a status update on the technical activities of 3GPPs, 5G Media.
