Stuart has nearly 20 years’ experience in visual effects. Prior to joining Framestore in 2000 on the Emmy award winning Dinotopia mini-series he spent a decade as a research physicist, after earning his PhD at the University of Liverpool. He has since worked across the pipeline at Framestore in various roles including Model, Lighting and Environment Supervisor.
His credits include some of the biggest Hollywood productions of recent years; Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, James Cameron’s Avatar, Marvel's Iron Man 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy. Stuart was CG Supervisor on Joe Wright’s 2015’s Pan and Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: The Legend of the Sword, where he supervised both of the shoots including the motion control shots.
Stuart joined the production of Alfonso Cuarón's Oscar and BAFTA - winning Gravity at the very beginning of its creative journey, developing the techniques used to shoot zero gravity scenes, working with motion control robots and the innovative LED lighting stage (Lightbox). He was heavily involved in supervising the shoot and worked closely with the VFX Supervisor, Director, DoP and SFX.
In 2017 Stuart worked as VFX Supervisor on Alien: Covenant, resurrecting cult creature ‘The Facehugger.’ He used his expertise in creating the look of zero gravity by supervising the filming of the film’s space walk sequence.Stuart’s broad technical knowledge and experience enables him to bring innovative solutions. Stuart has worked on set as shoot supervisor on the BAFTA-nominated Paddington 2. Most recently was a VFX Supervisor on Marvel’s box office breaking Avengers: Endgame, developing a wide range of effects including Smart Hulk, Rocket, Quantum suits and numerous digital environments.
