Richard began his broadcast career as a technical operator at Bloomberg TV before moving to ITN in 2000 as a multi-camera director and vision mixer, where he formed part of the launch team for the ITN News Channel. Following a period as a freelance multi camera studio director for leading UK broadcasters, he joined Big Game TV (BGTV) as Operations Director to oversee the technical installation and staff recruitment for a new multi-camera studio as part of a full channel rebrand for ITV Play.
In 2007 Richard launched his own production company, Pen & Telly with the specific intention of exploring low cost, high production value content capture and transmission over emerging online broadcast networks.
In 2011 he moved to Qatar to join Aljazeera English as Technical Director to grow the channel’s operation from a 15 hour a day production to a 24/7 broadcast network. He was responsible for the channels live studio output working closely with technical, production and creative teams to deliver global news as quickly and concisely as possible.
Returning to the UK, Richard joined dock10, the UK’s leading television facility initially as a Studio Manager, overseeing all aspects of programme production from development to delivery. In March 2016 he began his current role as Head of Production Innovation, developing and delivering dock10's Innovation strategy including the development of the facilities virtual studio capability; currently being used to deliver BBC Sports flagship sports programme, Match Of The Day.
