Dr. Paolo Casagranda received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the Polytechnic of Turin, in 1996. Then he received a Master in Networking and Multimedia from COREP in 1998 and, in the same year, he joined the Research Centre of Rai, the Italian public broadcaster, as a researcher. He investigated and built software prototypes related to subjects as data broadcasting on DVB protocols and A/V streaming on Internet. In 2006 he technically followed and integrated Rai Mobile TV on DVB-H platform, demonstrated during the Winter Olympic Games in Turin. From 2008 he has been technically managing the integration and implementation of Rai's DAB+ MIND (Multimedia IN Digital Radio) platform, currently used to schedule visuals and information for Rai's national Digital Radio service.
In October 2017 he got the Ph.D. in Computer Science at Doctoral School on Science and Advanced Technology of University of Turin, investigating recommender systems and machine learning topics applied to audio and radio.
He is vice-chairman of the new SP on Platforms from June 2019. He has been formerly vice-chairman of the EBU Digital Radio Platforms (2013) and co-chairman of the EBU Strategic Programme on Radio (2017).
He is currently coordinating a research group on content recommendation, radio personalization and voice-activated devices.
