John’s early IBC experience was as a visitor, in the 70’s, when IBC was at the Grosvenor House Hotel, and Wembley Conference Centre.
He was then working as a sound recordist and cameraman for ERT the Greek national TV channel.
John then moved to the UK, and, in the 80’s, attended IBC as an exhibitor, in Brighton. He was, at that time, design engineer for Midwest Communication, builders of Satellite Up-Links trucks.
After an eventful year of high winds at the Brighton show during 1990, which played havoc with both the Up-Link trucks, and the Sony marquee, IBC moved into RAI Amsterdam for the 1992 show, in July.
John exhibited, again, at this show, for Midwest Communication, in the outside area. This year, they exhibited a much smaller Up Link Van, of only 3.5 tonne, as the law had changed, and, at that time, no one with a normal licence was permitted to drive a seven tonne truck.
In 1994, IBC decided to run the show annually, at the RAI in Amsterdam. From 1994 until today (25 years) John hasn’t missed a single Show, either as a visitor, or as an executive board member of the SCTE.
For the last 14 years he has visited the Show as an executive board member of the SCTE, and, for the last nine years of those, as a member of the Best Stand Design Award Jury.
