Frédéric is Standardization Manager Media as part of the Ericsson CTO Standardization & Industry group. Frédéric has obtained a Master’s degree in Electronics from the University of Paris VI in 1997 and a DEA degree of Digital Communication Systems from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications of Paris (now Telecom Paris-Tech), France in 1998.
Frédéric was Signal Processing Engineer at the Advanced Studies department in Nortel Networks in 1998 where he performed research and standardization work on speech and channel coding for 2G and 3G standards and products.
He joined NEC in 2001 as Senior Systems Engineer where he performed architecture and systems design work on 3G/2G dual mode terminal platforms. In 2003, he became manager of the NEC tech. UK standardization team Standards team and the 3G/4G Standardization and research projects.
Since 2007 with Ericsson Frédéric focused first on Mobile platform API standardization and was elected as Khronos OpenMax IL chairman. He then represented Ericsson at the IMTC Board of directors, at 3GPP SA4 as vice-chairman and subsequently chairman (since 2016) and Multicast-Broadcast Streaming sub-group chairman and at various other media related standardization groups and for a like e.g. ETSI, DVB, and EBU.
In 2019 Frédéric is chairman of the 3GPP SA4 Working Group, dealing with Codecs and Multimedia for the 5G standard. His focus areas are the specification of 5G Media streaming and support of Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality/Mixed Reality in 5G networks, and the organization of related events like the „Immersive Media meets 5G“ 2nd Ecosystem and Standard Workshop that took place in Culver city, LA, California in April 2019.
