Eveline Ferwerda

CEO / Founder , Accenss

Eveline studied Media Management at the University of the Arts in Utrecht, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree, and in 2009 she received her Master’s degree in Management in Media from The Open University in Milton Keynes. Since then, Eveline has managed numerous cinematic projects for various companies, including the Dutch Exhibitors’ Association, Eye Film Institute, Cinema Digitaal and MACCS International.

In 2015 Eveline started working for Bartiméus Foundation, a Dutch NGO focussing on furthering the social participation and inclusion of people who are blind or partially sighted. This work allowed her to unite her passion for cinema with her objective of helping people. With her background in the cinema industry, Eveline strives to create access for people with various visual limitations into the cinematic experience to the fullest extent possible. In 2015 she introduced Earcatch, a free application to listen to audio description (AD) in every cinema in the Netherlands and Belgium. AD makes films accessible to viewers who are blind and vision impaired by adding in a verbal description in between the dialogue, so that the viewer can follow what's happening on screen. Since then she worked on policy to incorporate the availability of AD in the Dutch TV broadcasting system resulting in over 450 TV and film titles available with AD through Earcatch since its introduction. In 2018 she initiated Scribit.tv –– a free online platform where crowdsourced AD can be created for YouTube videos. In 2019 she started the accenss.com company with a personal mission to create even more accessibility for more people worldwide and contribute to an inclusive society where people with a disability never have to miss out on information
