As Group Chief Innovation Scientist, Debbie is at the forefront of disruptive technology development within the Shearwater Group plc - which comprises a suite of forward-thinking companies addressing the complexities and challenges that enterprises need to meet if they are to survive, evolve and succeed in an ever-expanding, global, digital business environment. Debbie is CEO of GeoLang Limited, a Shearwater portfolio company, and Scrum Product Owner of GeoLang’s Ascema DLP and Data Discovery Solution. With 25+ years’ experience running IT companies, Debbie is an expert in cyber security and natural language processing. Awarded the first Prince of Wales Innovation Scholarship at the University of Wales, Debbie is also a Senior Visiting Research Fellow at Glyndwr University. Debbie is currently a member of the Knowledge Transfer Network Defence and Security Advisory Board, formerly sat on the advisory board to HPC Wales and was an Advisory Board Member to the Wikimedia Foundation. An editor of two international (ISO) standards, Debbie also chaired a number of BSI/ISO committees as Principle UK and International Expert and is a named contributor to related internet standards by the Internet Engineering Task Force. Debbie was awarded a PhD in Computer Science for her thesis entitled ‘Human Visual Perception in Cyber Security’ and has patented the resultant Pseudo-Isochromatic CAPTCHA System as well as contributing to patents for GeoLang’s Ascema platform. Recently included in the Long list of Computer Weekly’s Most Influential Women in UK Tech, Debbie has also been listed as a finalist in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards as Disruptor of the Year for Wales 2019.
