Timothy Gray is a research associate in the Department of Moving Image Technologies at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS), where he works at the intersection of media production and emerging technology, driven by a deep interest in taking foundational research and applying it to real production settings. He is currently completing his PhD, focusing on neural 3D reconstruction methods for capturing real-world locations and integrating them seamlessly into virtual production pipelines.
Timothy began on the creative side of the industry, studying film production and working as a cameraman before earning a Master's in Computer Science at the University of Bath, where he specialised in artificial intelligence. This combination gives him a first-hand understanding of both the creative demands of filmmaking and the technologies reshaping it.
That same interest shapes his role in the CreatiF project, a collaboration between Fraunhofer IIS and the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF München) that gives students hands-on access to the tools shaping the future of production.

As part of this research, Timothy and his colleagues present a case study on the use of AI technologies in an active, real-world television production. His talk draws on that hands-on experience to examine both the opportunities and the practical hurdles of deploying AI in a live production environment, and what the industry can learn from bringing experimental tools into everyday production workflows.
