Shishir Subramanyam
Shishir Subramanyam is an R&D Scientist at TNO in The Hague, where he works in media networking with a focus on immersive media technologies including volumetric video compression and next-generation multimedia streaming systems. His research primarily focuses on advancing volumetric compression, the end-to-end pipeline for volumetric streaming, adaptive bandwidth delivery, and spatial media processing to enable scalable, high-quality, real-time Extended Reality experiences.
With an extensive background in multimedia systems and spatial computing, Shishir has made significant technical contributions to international standardization bodies. He is an active contributor to ISO/IEC MPEG standardization efforts, focusing on visual volumetric video coding, including Video-based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC), AI-based Point Cloud Compression (AI-PCC), and scene description specifications. His work helps bridge the gap between advanced research algorithms and international standards required for practical deployment across commercial media workflows.
Shishir earned his PhD from TU Delft, conducting his doctoral research at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), where he built user-centered adaptive streaming architectures and Quality of Experience (QoE) evaluation methodologies for dynamic point clouds and digital humans. His research spans point cloud compression, tile-based adaptive delivery, objective point cloud quality metrics, and latency optimization for multi-party volumetric interactions, resulting in numerous publications across IEEE and ACM venues.
