Rui Costa

Rui devoted his life to the challenge of improving the performance of network protocols. This quest started at his Ph.D. work (graduated with highest honours), where he became an expert on Network Coding, applying these techniques to mobile app performance and video streaming protocols, like HLS or DASH. HTTP3/QUIC does not bring the necessary media delivery performance for mobile apps. That’s why he has built a new content delivery protocol, Bolina, using network coding to achieve 30% faster video startup time and 66% less videos with buffering.
