Rafael Bermúdez

Rafael Bermúdez is Product Owner and Head of the Technological Research team at CCMA, the Catalan public media corporation. His entire professional career has been dedicated to CCMA, where he has contributed to a wide range of technology and media innovation projects.

Throughout his career, Rafael has held several technical and leadership roles, including software developer, software architect, technical lead, project manager, and Product Owner. This multidisciplinary background has given him a broad understanding of the complete technology lifecycle, from the initial exploration of emerging technologies to the design, development, testing, and deployment of solutions in real broadcasting environments.

Since 2022, he has led CCMA's Technological Research team, coordinating innovation initiatives focused on HbbTV, media accessibility through WebAssembly, multiscreen and synchronized media experiences, immersive technologies, and the application of artificial intelligence to newsroom workflows and television user experiences.

Rafael also works closely with universities, research institutions, broadcasters, and technology partners through collaborative national and European projects. He regularly presents the team’s research and prototypes at major industry events and broadcasting forums, including the HbbTV Symposium and Awards and the EBU Access Services Community Meeting. His work focuses on transforming emerging technologies into practical, scalable solutions for public-service media.
