Peter Brightwell
Peter is a Lead Engineer at BBC R&D where he leads work for BBC's transition to software-based live working. He has an extensive background in broadcast and technology, in particular video compression, file-based acquisition, networked delivery, and his work on virtual graphics led to a Queen’s award for Innovation for BBC. He led BBC’s demonstration of a UHD IP Studio for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which helped show the way for today’s IP based systems based on technologies such as ST 2110 and NMOS.
Peter is a frequent contributor to industry work on interoperability, is an SMPTE fellow and was a co-author of the JT-NM Networked Media Reference Architecture, and as chair of the AMWA Networked Media Incubator has run many industry workshops.
More recently Peter’s work has focussed on how technologies from the cloud industry can be used for live broadcast media operations to transform live productions. He is co-chair of the EBU Dynamic Media Facility initiative, editor of the DMF Reference Architecture, and on the leadership teams of various industry projects on live media exchange.
