Mike Nilsson

Mike Nilsson studied Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, Oxford, UK. He has worked at BT since 1988. He represented BT in ITU-T and MPEG, contributing to the H.263, H.264 and MPEG standards. He edited H.245, the multimedia control protocol used in H.323 and H.324, since its beginning in 1994 until 2013.

He was a major contributor to BT's Fastnets streaming technology, which won BT's Sir Alan Rudge medal for innovation in 2002, and the telecommunications category of the IEE Innovation in Engineering Awards in 2005.

He has 51 granted patents and has published 49 papers on topics including video compression and the delivery of video services over networks.

He is currently working in BT Research and Commercialisation on Network Infrastructure Research. He represents BT in DVB.

He is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the IET.
