Matt Firth
Matt Firth is a Project Engineer in the Audio Team at BBC Research and Development. He joined the department in 2015 having graduated from the University of Huddersfield, UK with a first-class degree in Audio Technology. He works primarily on audio production tools and workflows with a particular focus on Next Generation Audio (NGA) and spatial audio. Some of his past projects with the BBC have included developing spatial audio tools for live binaural production at scale for the BBC Proms and the production software used for the ORPHEUS project to demonstrate an end-to-end object-based media chain for audio content with branching narrative.
Matt has been also involved in standardisation work around the Audio Definition Model (ADM) through the ITU since 2019. He is part of the development team behind the EAR Production Suite which facilitates NGA production using ADM. Last year, Matt led a project to perform internal trials of live ADM production and delivery for the Eurovision Song Contest, which was hosted by the BBC. As part of that project, he developed some of the production tools and rendering software used throughout the trial.
