Jonathan Pfaff did his diploma and his PhD in mathematics from Bonn University in 2010 and 2012, respectively. After a postdoctoral stay at Stanford University, he joined Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, Berlin, where, since 2020, he is heading the research group on video coding technologies. Since 2025, he is also a professor of computer science at the University of Potsdam. The group of Jonathan Pfaff conducts research on many aspects of data compression with a particular focus on video compression. It is very actively participating in the standardization activities of the Joint Video Experts group (JVET) and, more broadly, of ITU-T SG21 Q6 (VCEG) and ISO/IEC JTC1 SC29 (MPEG).
