Jon Roberts

Jon was appointed ITN's Director of Technology, Production and Innovation in 2021 and is responsible for leading the technical strategy for the company, including the management and development of broadcast operations, technology, studios, media management and workflows. He is a key member of ITN's senior leadership team.

Jon has extensive experience in the broadcast technology field. He joined ITN as a trainee in 2000 and has since held a number of senior production and technology roles, including technical director, programme director and head of studio technology.

He has played a critical role in numerous major tech projects at ITN, including launching the ITV News virtual reality studio, developing ITN’s innovative control room integration model, delivering special coverage of multiple specials such as elections and major royal events and, most recently, leading ITN's digital transformation through the move to an IP-defined technical infrastructure. 

Jon is also a vastly experienced programme director, having worked on numerous General Election results programmes since 2005 - directing the BAFTA-nominated 2017 and 2019 editions - as well as directing the relaunch of ITV News at Ten, the Brexit referendum results special, the 2019 World Athletics Championships from Doha, the Queen’s Christmas Broadcast and many other programmes. 

Under Jon's leadership, ITN's technology department was named Tech Team of the Year at the Broadcast Tech Awards 2023.
