João Neto is co-founder and CEO of VoiceInteraction, where he leads the development of proprietary speech-processing technology for broadcast environments. Since establishing the company in 2008, he has helped transform research in automatic speech recognition into production platforms for live closed captioning, media monitoring, transcription automation, speech analytics and dictation. VoiceInteraction’s technology is used by broadcasters across Europe, the Americas and Asia.
João holds BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. His doctoral research examined speaker adaptation for continuous speech recognition using hybrid Hidden Markov Model and Artificial Neural Network systems, with a particular focus on broadcast news.
Before focusing full-time on VoiceInteraction, João was an Assistant Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico and a researcher at INESC-ID. He taught signal processing and neural networks, supervised postgraduate research, participated in several European projects and published more than 70 papers in international conferences and journals.
Combining academic expertise with nearly two decades of company and product leadership, João brings a practical perspective on applying speech AI to live broadcasting. His work focuses on turning advances in speech recognition, language processing and machine translation into reliable systems that integrate with real production workflows.
