Derl McCrudden is head of international video news for AP, based in London. He joined AP in November 2010, following 18 years in broadcasting. For 11 of those years he worked for ITV News at the British company ITN. There McCrudden worked in production, becoming a news editor - which included extensive travelling on breaking news stories - and latterly a programme editor, making prime time network news bulletins. In 2006 McCrudden moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was part of the launch team of Al Jazeera English. He went on to become bureau chief, running the channel's all-Asia news gathering and news programmes. At AP, McCrudden oversees the video report produced from outside the United States, including hundreds of live events per month, and around 25,000 edited stories per year.
