Ana Betancourt

Ana Betancourt is Founder and CEO of Black Goblin and creator of Thol, a video analysis tool that uses computer vision to identify visual events in footage and generate time-coded cue lists, as well as tailored session preparation for Foley artists, supervising sound editors, and sound design teams. With a background in sound design, creative technology, and the science of sound, she has spent more than 15 years working across film, television, and immersive media. Since launching its beta in March, Thol has attracted Academy Award, Emmy, and BAFTA-winning users and has been piloted by teams at BBC R&D. Alongside her entrepreneurial work, Ana served on Creative Edinburgh's board of directors from 2022 to January 2025 and she continues to mentor independent creatives in business strategy and fundraising and researches the ethical use of machine learning to support creative professionals and protect the integrity of the industry.
