Alexis Allemann

Data Scientist, EBU

Alexis Allemann is a Data Scientist at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva, Switzerland. He began his career with an IT apprenticeship in the watchmaking industry and later worked part-time as a Software Engineer during his Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering at HEIG-VD, a University of Applied Sciences in Western Switzerland. His first experience in the media sector came through his Bachelor's thesis, where he developed a dashboard for the EBU to analyze news trends by extracting and aggregating named entities from articles.

Driven by a strong interest in Artificial Intelligence, he pursued a Master of Science in Engineering with a specialization in Data Science and worked part-time as a researcher in Natural Language Processing at HEIG-VD. There, he contributed to projects involving low-resource language translation and document-level machine translation, resulting in several publications on multilingual neural machine translation and training optimization techniques.

His Master’s thesis, carried out at the EBU, focused on developing a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline for real-time news exploration, applying advanced AI techniques to address practical challenges in the media domain. Alexis joined the EBU in May 2025, where he continues to build on this work, further developing the RAG pipeline and exploring the use of Large Language Models to improve content delivery and audience engagement within the EBU Technology and Innovation department.
