Open Source C2PA live-streaming ingestion with WebRTC using Digitally Signed Content

Using C2PA for live-streaming is currently limited in the C2PA Live Video specification to content packaged using the ISO BMFF standard (fMP4, CMAF) and does not yet support other containers, such as MPEG-TS, or non-containerized encoded bitstreams as used in WebRTC.

We propose a solution that embeds digital signatures and links C2PA manifests directly into H.264, H.265, and H.266 video bitstreams using Digitally Signed Content (DSC), a new signaling standard defined in H.274. This method ensures that authenticity and provenance data remain cryptographically bound to the content throughout the entire distribution chain and can be used for transmuxing and low-latency live-streaming, regardless of the container or streaming protocol used.

In our demonstration, we will showcase an open-source, end-to-end GStreamer-based solution designed to verify this workflow. We will encode a live source with H.265 with C2PA and stream it to a streaming server with WebRTC using WHIP. A client will connect to the server using WHEP and validate the provenance and authenticity of the live feed, ensuring the integrity of the content through embedded C2PA assertions.
