ATSC 3.0’s Role in Europe’s Media Future - Reimagining Broadcast Economics - Mobiles to Automobiles
As Europe rethinks terrestrial and mobile delivery, having an extensible broadcast platform offers a pragmatic path to implementing multiple business models at continental scale. With “mobile-first” consumption surging and unicast networks facing cost and capacity constraints, public service media and commercial broadcasters alike must look beyond traditional unicast delivery models. ATSC, the Broadcast Standards Association, has a suite of global standards that extend from TV’s to Everything. Brazil has aligned with ATSC 3.0 at the PHY layer, and is now engaged in mobile studies using the same.
With the Presidential Decree for Brazil’s adoption of ATSC standards, including the physical layer, it opens another major market of engagement and development.
India is focused on D2M (Direct to Mobile), for a “Billion strong”, data hungry consumer base.
In the US, the Joint Venture “Edgebeam”, comprised of the largest US broadcasters, is focused on data distribution to a wide variety of endpoints – automobiles, IoT, MNO offload and more.
ROW has its eyes open for engagement.
In our session, we will focus on business focused global service trials, chipsets and consumer devices, and cross-sector uses aligned with European spectrum, policy, and accessibility goals.
Join us to explore how ATSC 3.0 can empower Europe’s broadcasters, regulators, and technology partners to build a scalable, sovereign, and future-proof media infrastructure.
