5G Technology - convergence with broadcast
In this session we continuing our journey to seamlessly blend 5G and traditional broadcast. Our first paper, investigates the technical feasibility of a 5G Broadcast simultaneously co-existing in the same UHF channel as a traditional broadcast (ATSC 3.0, DVB-T2, ISDB-T). This promises to be a powerful tool for service migration in congested spectrum when balancing the needs of legacy devices and existing regulation. Our second paper, finalizes the work to provide seamless service discovery (using DVB-I) with the delivery options of 5G (5G broadcast, 5G Media Streaming or hybrid). A proof-of-concept system was successfully demonstrated at DVB World, in March 2024 delivering to a commercial smartphone. This session is also support by a paper from 3GPP SA4 providing an update on their XR and Media activities for 5G and beyond. A presentation of this paper is available, from the 5G MAG team on Friday 13th.
