IBC Content Everywhere Stage 1 (Hall 5, 5.A28)
IBC Content Everywhere

The 5G specifications incorporate functionality that will find applications across the media and entertainment value chain. This session will provide updates on the progress towards commercialisation of two new 5G features: 5G Broadcast and network slicing.

5G Broadcast is a direct-to-mobile technology similar in operation to current terrestrial broadcast standards such DVB-T2, ATSC 1.0 & ISDB-T. Recently been formed to promote the technology by engaging with national governments, the vendor community and broadcast operators, the 5G Broadcast Collective will outline the technology’s key features and how it will serve the public. The Collective will also explain additional revenue-generating use cases that can be supported. Working with 5G MAG, another industry body that develops and tests 5G technologies, the 5G Broadcast Collective is part of the process that provides feedback and proposes updates the global standards body responsible for 5G, 3GPP.

Slicing is a function that can dedicate specified 5G bandwidth to an individual customer. For content producers in need of a temporary flexible wireless contribution link, slicing will be seen as The Real 5G.
Following recent trials, the imminent release of 5G URSP slicing (User equipment Routing Selection Policy) by telecommunications operators will be the catalyst for new business models where quality and experience guarantees can be implemented more dynamically and efficiently. Telstra Broadcast Services will provide an overview of trial results and explain the implications of 5G URSP for viewers, broadcasters and content owners.
