This talk will explore the future direction of highly immersive reality experiences, for which the industry is now taking the first steps. It will discuss why a high quality of experience is essential for the success of this hugely promising market, and why interoperability plays a key role in establishing the ecosystem – both for consumers, for which it all just has to work, and for content and service providers, for which distributing content needs to be economically viable. This talk will conclude by discussing the role of market-building organisations like the VR Industry Forum (VRIF), providing an overview of VRIF’s goals, activities and roadmap.
