Sports Innovation - The Telstra Distributed Production Network (DPN) enabling remote production workflows for sport
16 Sep 2017
Hear from Andreas Eriksson, Head of Sales for Telstra Broadcast Services, as he introduces Telstra’s new Distributed Production Network in Australia. The Distributed Production Network (DPN) is a high-capacity, low-latency, multi-tenant network that initially connects 29 sporting stadiums across regional and metro Australia to production hubs in Sydney and Melbourne. Using the Telstra DPN broadcasters can send multiple raw camera feeds, audio and equipment control from venues back to the production hubs. This new broadcast model - called remote production - will be a world first on Australia’s vast geographic scale. And Australia’s largest sports broadcaster, Fox Sports, has been signed as the first customer to utilise this network. By centralising the production of live sports, production crews can now work remotely at the production hubs eliminating the need to travel to sporting venues up 3500 kilometres away. This in turn reduces operational costs for broadcasters, creating the possibility to offer more live sporting content for audiences.
