Chairman Michael Lumley

Michael LumleyMichael Lumley spent most of his career with the BBC.  As a producer, director and executive producer he specialised in large-scale ceremonial and political events: he was in charge of the outside broadcast coverage of the wedding of HRH Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer. 

Michael became a director of BBC Resources with responsibility for its UK-wide production facilities. His major interest today is in the use of technology to enable new creative and business opportunities for programme makers. He is a fellow of the Royal Television Society. He has extensive experience in judging creative and technology awards, and chairs the IBC Innovation Awards panel.

Vijaya Cherian

Vijaya CherianVijaya Cherian is the Group Editor of the Broadcast Division at CPI, Dubai. She has spent the last ten years writing about the Middle East broadcast market from a technical and trade point of view.

She launched BroadcastPro Middle East in 2010. She was also instrumental in launching SatellitePro ME - the MENA region's first and only satellite magazine. Under the BroadcastProME brand, she conducts regular vendor-neutral technical workshops and roundtables in conjunction with industry players, and hosts a well-attended annual Conference and Awards event in Dubai in partnership with the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU).

Christine Gebhard

Christine GebhardChristine Gebhard works for the online publication and its associated print magazine »Broadcast« which she launched with Gerd Voigt-Mueller.

Christine has worked in the industry for more than 20 years and has a deep knowledge of the market. She has written for several German speaking magazines with a focus on video, film and TV technology. Previously she was engaged with the special interest publishing house Motor Press Stuttgart.

Carolyn Giardina

Carolyn Giardina

Journalist Carolyn Giardina is Tech Editor at The Hollywood Reporter and writes its Behind the Screen blog.

Her work as an editor, reporter or columnist has also appeared in titles such as CinemaEditor, SHOOT, TVBEurope, The IBC Daily and SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal. She’s co-author of Exploring 3D: The New Grammar of Stereoscopic Filmmaking (Focal Press, 2012).

In 2015, Carolyn was presented American Cinema Editors’ Robert Wise Award, which recognizes a journalist for contributions to film editing. She was the 2011 recipient of the International Cinematographers Guild’s Technicolor William A. Fraker Award for journalistic contributions to cinematography.

Dick Hobbs

Dick HobbsDick Hobbs is a freelance journalist and has been at every IBC for 25 years, in every capacity: as an exhibitor, running a marketing communications company, as a journalist, a conference chair, and as editor of IBC Daily and IBC TV News.

Now he is a well-known independent commentator and consultant, contributor to a number of industry journals, and a regular speaker at industry events.

Although he is fascinated by technology, throughout his career his real interest has been in the application of technology to do things better, faster or more creatively, and so is a natural supporter of the IBC Innovation Awards.

Heather McLean

Heather McLeanHeather McLean has worked on the IBC Daily for the last 10 years, adding her specialism in the mobile and telecoms industry to the publication when IBC first introduced mobile TV and IP TV to the event, which has evolved into IBC Content Everywhere.

Over the last 15 years Heather has written for all the UK broadsheets, as well as publications including TVB Europe, IBC Content Everywhere, IBC365, Fierce Wireless, E-Forex Magazine, The Economist’s Executive Briefing, SVG Europe, as well as working on The IBC Daily Executive Summary, the BVE Daily and ISE Daily.

Since 2000 Heather McLean has been a technology, business and education journalist and editor. As an editor today Heather runs Smart Chimps, an online publication focused on the mobile ecosystem, and educational sector magazine, Tech&Learning UK.
