Name of Project: Game Zero

Recipient: Sky Sports

Project summary: On 19th September 2021 Sky Sports achieved something remarkable: comprehensive live coverage of the football match between Tottenham Hotspur and London rivals Chelsea, with all of Sky’s outstanding production values – but with net zero carbon emissions.  Game Zero was the world’s first net zero carbon football match at an elite level, and Sky Sports’ first net zero broadcast.


Name of Project: Driving Environmental Awareness

Recipient: WaterBear, supported by Nikon

Project summary: Recognising storytelling as a tool to make a difference, WaterBear is the first interactive streaming platform dedicated to the future of our planet. Members control what content they want to watch, when they want it, That content includes documentaries, locally-told stories, NGO campaigns, on-the-ground grassroots outreach, volunteering, eco-travel, sustainable products and more, all on the WaterBear platform. Partners like Nikon Europe contribute with equipment and expertise.


Name of Project: SmartFM - Enabling broadcasters to implement sustainable practices

Recipient: WorldCast Systems

Project summary: Radio and television transmitters are notoriously inefficient in power conversion. WorldCast Systems invested heavily to develop SmartFM, a sophisticated algorithm that enables FM radio broadcasters reduce CO2 consumption and operating costs by 40%, without compromising audio quality or coverage.
