The broadcast industry is in the midst of a deep transformation, with flexible software solutions replacing static hardware products. Simultaneously, the software industry is being revolutionized by the replacement of inflexible proprietary software with customizable Open Source systems. The convergence of these two trends is key to empowering the end user of technologies and putting them in the drivers seat. It is now easy to create complex audio/video processing systems using Open Source software and generic computers and public cloud. From the initial capture to delivery, Open Source software that can be used throughout the broadcast chain to create complete, end-to-end solutions. Whether it's GStreamer, ffmpeg, UPipe, WebKit, SRT, OBS or simply Linux, there now exists a wealth of Open Source projects that can be customized to build software based systems, from the cloud to embedded devices. Building on Collabora's strong background in the video transport, broadcast & AV industries, we'll give a brief overview of how you can take advantage of these deep changes, and demonstrate how Open Source puts you in the driver's seat by allowing you to create better products faster, all while maintaining the ability to support them in the long run.
