Paper Session: Beyond HEVC - how to build an even better codec
HEVC, as we know it, is barely two years old. Yet the industry’s quest to build beyond it continues unabashed. This is being driven by both a technical need for application-specific improvements (for example - low latency or further bit-rate reduction) as well as strong commercial pressures. This session will present the benefits and status of innovative new coding tools and will ask if we are entering a new phase of iterative and rapidly evolving codecs.
Papers in order of presentation:
Siegfried Fößel, Head of Department, Fraunhofer IIS, Germany, "INTRODUCTION TO JPEG XS – THE NEW LOW COMPLEXITY CODEC STANDARD FOR PROFESSIONAL VIDEO PRODUCTION"
David Taubman, Professor, UNSW Sydney, Australia, "HIGH THROUGHPUT JPEG 2000: NEW ALGORITHMS AND OPPORTUNITIES"
Sriram Sethuraman, CTO, Ittiam Systems, India, "ANALYSIS OF THE EMERGING AV1 ROYALTY-FREE VIDEO CODING FORMAT FOR ONLINE WORKFLOWS"
Jens-Rainer Ohm, Chair for Communications Engineering, RWTH Aachen University, Germany, "STATUS AND PERSPECTIVES OF VIDEO CODING STANDARDIZATION BEYOND HEVC"
