Over the last two decades the role of media content has expanded beyond entertaining and informing to include equipping an audience with important life skills to live better. Today’s content is interactive and reflective and extends beyond traditional platforms into digital worlds and online spaces.

This evolution has added a new dimension to the concepts of communities, neighbourhoods and culture. In this Lounge Talk, the author presents the role of fantasy and humour in the age of digital story telling through textual analysis of narratives of a Japanese cartoon titled 'Doraemon' as well as sharing her findings on the media habits of 450 children (8 to 13 years old) in urban India.
