In the 50th anniversary year of the Apollo 11 moon landing, this session will look at the way film-makers bring space to earth-bound audiences through film and television. Steve Beres from HBO will show and tell the stories behind the restoration of the Ron Howard/ Tom Hanks 1998 mini-series From the Earth to the Moon. Framestore's Stuart Penn will discuss the legacy of the Oscar-, Bafta- and VES-winning vfx on Alfonso Cuaron's defining movie Gravity. While Arrow's Tom Brisley describes how the production company has mastered documentary story-telling Live from Space and the International Space Station and the technical challenges of finding and transferring rushes from NASA’s vast vaults to make Discovery special Apollo: The Forgotten Films.
