During FIFA world cup 22, V-Nova partnered with Brazilian national broadcaster Globo for the successful trial of MPEG-5 LCEVC enabling two new enhanced live delivery broadcast experiences. The first showcase featured a live broadcast channel leveraging the LCEVC enhancement layer to convert an existing TV 2.0 signal into a High-Dynamic Range (HDR) 10-bit channel for enabled receivers. Transmission was carried over the existing ISDB-Tb system providing a completely backwards-compatible delivery with the option to provide a step-change improvement in user experience. The second showcase represented a world-first end-2-end trial of LCEVC-enhanced VVC video with MPEG-DASH to deliver a scalable 4k signal as an enhancement to a 1080p VVC base stream. This was an example of the range of features that will be offered by the upcoming TV 3.0 standard, Brazil’s next-generation DTT system that is being specified by the Brazilian SBTVD Forum and is due to be deployed in 2025.
