Accelerator Media Innovation Programme 2023: A fast-track innovation framework for the media & entertainment eco-system

IBC created the Accelerator programme in 2019, to support the media & entertainment industry with a framework for agile, collaborative, and fast-track innovation with a unique multi-company project-based approach to solving complex media and entertainment business and technology challenges. The programme focuses on hands-on experimentation – learning about new technologies and understanding new possibilities through their application in tangible use case and workflow experimentation.

2023 Accelerator Media Innovation Projects 

Authenticated Data ... 

Authenticated Data Specification aims to allow studios, broadcasters, content creators and owners to verify and authenticate their content data and imagery - and publish it to 3rd party sources.

Synthetic Humans ... 

Synthetic Humans for Entertainment and Accessibility will present two use cases for synthetic humans: the first one is a theatre filled with the melodic tones of Maria Callas, and the second is a photorealistic sign language interpreter, to address accessibility in broadcasting.

Real-Time XR Sport ... 

Real-Time XR Sport Edge will build on the latest, cutting-edge innovations in interactive digital athletes, motion capture, AI and high-speed edge content delivery for live XR sports workflows for 3D metaverse worlds, and the potentials into OTT platforms.

Connect & Produce ...

Connect & Produce Everywhere aims to move live production media processing stages between cloud and edge computing at an event, allowing us to deploy software to the best location making the most efficient use of resources in a bandwidth constrained location.

5G Motion Capture ... 

5G Motion Capture for Live Performance and Animation focuses on two unique workstreams that will power live, cutting-edge motion capture and low-latency connectivity into creative output, focusing on the performing arts, and 3D animation into children’s hospitals.

Gallery Agnostic ... 

Gallery Agnostic Live Media Production will aim to explore advancements of our live media production workflows and upgrade them into the modern, present day via device-agnostic, gallery-agnostic and hybrid ways of working.

Responsive Narrative ... 

Responsive Narrative Factory will allow multiple streams of time-based metadata to be combined to allow for more effective manipulation of content to create highly customisable programs. It will use the metadata transport format Metarex, and Infuse Video's streaming technology.

Real Time Interactive ... 

Real Time Interactive Streaming Personalises Live Experience aims to demonstrate that additional revenue can be achieved through personalizing viewer engagement from live interactive experience streaming, for big or small sporting and other events.

Accelerator Media Innovation Programme

More than 160 organisations have participated in the Accelerator programme since 2019, as Champions and Participants in some 27 projects – household media brands together with large, medium and small technology organisations and academic institutions.

Champions of projects have included Aardman Entertainment, Al Jazeera, BBC, BT Sport, DAZN, Fox Sports, ITV, NBC Universal, the English Premier League, Pixar, Production Park, Thomson Reuters, RTÉ, Sky, Universal Pictures, Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery, and many, many more.
